Spatial Analysis Software - Linux and Windows

I like the fact that as an engineer, I can do research and then implement it myself. It's really satisfying to build this stuff from scratch. I've spent the last 5 years of my life learning everything I can about spatial analysis. In my office I've built what I consider the ultimate spatial analysis workstations and servers, on top of both Linux and Windows operating systems. I thought I'd catalog the components I used and maybe analyze the capabilities of each.
